What I’m doing in 2018 …

Posted on September 9th, 2016 under General.

Work continues to be exciting and challenging. I’ll be presenting my NUTS & BOLTS training as part of the GRANTS BOOT CAMP again in March 2019 – dates to be announced. This two-day workshop has been extremely popular. You can register through

I’ve presented even more workshops than usual over the past 18 months, including two in Stockton and two in Fresno for the California Asian Chamber of Commerce. Attendees included representatives from community-based organizations and small businesses throughout California’s Central Valley. It’s my pleasure to be able to provide continuing help for existing clients and to assist new clients in meeting their grant writing challenges.

I’m very proud that the Association of Fundraising Professionals chose me as the Outstanding Fundraising Professional for 2014. I received the award from California’s Capital Chapter at a special ceremony on December 17, 2014.

Over the 33 years I’ve been doing this work, I’ve helped clients and employers raise $109,052 million for all the wonderful work they do. It’s exciting and rewarding work, and I’m proud to be part of all my clients’ efforts.

It’s been an especially good two years … One of my clients, Sacramento County Office of Education just received $1.2 million for Arts Training and Programs throughout the County. Another received $1.5 million in funding for job training services. One of my long-term clients, Saint John’s Program for Real Change, was awarded $727,000 for their comprehensive work with homeless women and children, followed by $50,000 from Walmart and the only $10,000 award that Soroptimist International of Greater Sacramento selects each year.

In recent years, the Respite Partnership Collaborative of Sierra Health Foundation awarded a total of $600,000 to SaintJohn’s. Jeff Wilkinson, then Chief Operating Officer, said, “You’re the best grant writer east and west of the Mississippi. A second e-mail on October 18th added, “Your grant work and counsel have truly been invaluable!”

And great past news … the Federal Home Loan Bank awarded $1 million Saint John’s. I wrote this proposal, and it’s very exciting that they have funding for improvements to a new residential facility on Jackson Road. It was a nationwide competition, with only two awards in Sacramento County; the others were in Arizona, Florida, Maine, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington State.

Past training presentations include the first training webinars for the Nonprofit Resource Center (now The Impact Foundry). I’ve also I’ve additional webinars for clients – three for the Alaska Primary Care Association and three for the California Primary Care Association. It’s such a good way to provide training access for those who can’t easily come to Sacramento.

In June, 2013, I presented a three-hour workshop for the Delta Conservancy in the small town of Clarksburg, California. What a pretty area that whole Delta region is. This year, I presented a three-hour workshop “Taking the Pain and Fear out of Grant Writing” for the City of Citrus Heights Community Collaborative. This is the fourth workshop I’ve presented for the City.
